In Italian, asking about hobbies is rarely done using the English loanword 'hobby' in casual speech. Instead, Italians use phrases centered around free time or passions:

Cosa fai nel tempo libero? — What do you do in your free time?
Che cosa fai di bello quando non lavora/studia? — What fun things do you do when you are not working/studying?
Hai qualche passione in particolare? — Do you have any particular passion?
Quali sono i tuoi hobby? — What are your hobbies? (Understood, but slightly formal or structured).

English uses the single verb 'play' for both games and musical instruments, but Italian makes a strict distinction:

Use giocare a for games and sports: giocare a calcio (play soccer), giocare a scacchi (play chess), giocare ai videogiochi (play video games).
